I’m committed to improving working and living conditions, expanding access to high-quality professional learning, and strengthening teacher pipelines by addressing issues like educator well being. I advocate for competitive salaries so teachers can afford to live in the communities they serve. My priority is building systems of mentorship, wellness, and professional growth that make teaching sustainable and ensure every educator feels seen, valued, and supported.

Why did you want to join the school board?
I wanted to serve on the Wake County Board of Education because public education has shaped my life. I attended Wake County Public Schools, spent more than two decades as a North Carolina educator, and now have children who attend and have graduated from WCPSS. Throughout my career, I've been inspired by the teachers, education support professionals, and administrators I've worked alongside, and I've seen firsthand both the incredible impact they make and the challenges they face.

I was also encouraged by my predecessor, Representative Monika Johnson-Hostler, whose leadership and mentorship showed me the power of serving with integrity, collaboration, and a deep commitment to community.

Today, I bring the perspectives of an educator, a parent, and a lifelong member of the Wake County community to every decision I make. I serve because I believe every student deserves a great education, every educator deserves to be supported, and every family deserves a voice.
Why are you running for re-election?
Every decision I make... from voting on the district's multi-million-dollar budget to serving as Chair of the Student Achievement Committee; is guided by my perspective as both a parent and an educator. Over the past 17 months, I've helped shape important decisions while witnessing the incredible talent of our students and the dedication of our educators and staff. I'm proud of what we've accomplished, but there's still more work to do. I'm running for re-election to continue building strong schools through transparent leadership, meaningful community engagement, and a steadfast commitment to ensuring every student thrives, every educator is supported, and every family has a voice.
What makes you qualified to serve on the School Board? What sets you apart from the rest of the board?
I bring more than two decades of experience in public education as a classroom teacher, National Board Certified Teacher, instructional leader, public school advocate and professional learning specialist. As the current District 2 Board Member, I combine classroom experience with governance experience to make informed, student-centered decisions.Â

Every member of our Board brings valuable experiences to the table. I contribute a unique perspective as the only current board member who is a fully licensed North Carolina educator, a National Board Certified Teacher, and the parent of current WCPSS students. Together, those experiences keep me grounded in the realities of our classrooms and our community.
What is a "Culture of Care"
Safety goes beyond physical security. I support increasing the number of school counselors, psychologists, and social workers in our schools. We must create an environment where every student feels seen, heard, and physically safe.
How do you make decisions as a School Board member?
Every decision I make starts with one question: "What's in the best interest of students?" And then two other questions immediately follow: "How have parent and family voices been centered?" and "How does this effect educators and staff?" I listen to families, educators, students, and community members, review the data, consider long-term impacts, and strive to make decisions that are transparent, equitable, and fiscally responsible.
